Have you had cause to make a property claim because of fire, flood or anything else that caused total destruction of your property?

Many of us who have not had the cause to make a total claim do not realise some of the implications of owning a property insurance policy.

If you have total property destruction you will need to demolish what is left of your building and you will also need to remove it.  This cost alone would quite likely be in the excess of $20,000.

When you go to rebuild your new property you are also faced with architect fees, council fees, increased material costs etc. that you just had not planned for when you initially took out your property insurance.

On top of that, if you have a mortgage you will still have to pay your monthly premiums without any income from rental.

Environmentally, insulating is a step in the right direction if you do not have it in your properties.

Any type of insulation is beneficial in costs and also in reducing the carbon footprint, something that most people are very aware of.

Due in part to the growing awareness of environment concerns the popularity of cellulose insulation has taken an upswing.

Cellulose is made up of mostly recycled paper and usually from old newspapers.  The other component is borax and this is why cellulose is so popular, because borax although a fire retardant is next to harmless.   The making of cellulose products is relatively easy, much easier than a lot of other insulating products and is much better for the environment as a whole.

Installation of cellulose insulation takes less time than it does for fibreglass products, therefore costing less at this stage, but product costs are very comparable as well.

It is well documented that fibreglass products have strong toxins and most people do not wish to use them in their properties.

Studies show that even a 5% gap can reduce the effectiveness of insulation by as much as 50% and some products have this much gap in them.  Recycled paper insulation is 100% gap free, and therefore much more effective for the purpose for which it is being put to.

If the costs are relative it seems that the cellulose product far outweighs the other products because of the environment and the effectiveness factor.
