Open Home Etiquette When Viewing

August 09, 2010 | admin | Comments 0

I read an article the other day which I thought was worth giving some thought to.  It was about open home etiquette and also house inspections.  Here are some points to consider, some of them benefitting you as a buyer and some just a matter of courtesy:

  • If you are serious about viewing houses then it is best to arrive at an open house 20 minutes before the closing time.  It is quite probable that the agent has other homes to open after the one you are inspecting so if you have questions or want to persue more information on a particular property the chances are the agent may not have time to give you
  • should small children be taken to open homes it is a good idea to take a toy or two so that they can keep themselves occupied and they should accompany the adult at all times
  • leave a name in the register because as you would appreciate as a seller, you do like to get an idea of how many visitors have been through
  • keep all comments to yourself, especially negative ones as your comments may affect another person’s opinion to buy
  • resist the temptation to touch belongings and unless serious about the property avoid looking in cupboards
  • park on the roadside so that the driveway remains clear

These thoughts are helpful hints so that when visiting properties you keep the respect of your agent.
