Understanding The Problems Associated With Asbestos

asbestosTHE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ASBESTOS

Something that many people do not know is that asbestos comes in a number of forms.  Most people who are aware of the dangers of asbestos would be aware of its white fibrous form, but few know of the other brown and blue types.

THE REMOVAL OF ASBESTOS

If you have the need to remove asbestos, then care needs to be taken with your planning because it is a dangerous product to be dealing with and the removal of it needs to fit in with all your alterations.  Getting rid of asbestos is not a cheap exercise, but your family’s safety, the safety of your animals and your visitors is at risk.  You need to organise for a licensed asbestos removalist to do the job.

HEALTH RISKS

The health risks from asbestos arise when the fibres break into pieces so small that once they get into the air they are airborne and can be inhaled into the lungs.  These pieces are so small that they cannot even be seen with the naked eye.  Once in the lungs it is difficult for the body to remove them and this is where some people end up with an asbestos related illness.

These small fibres can get into the ground around the house and can cause all sorts of problems at a later date.

For homes built before 1985 when regulations changed regarding the use of asbestos, you can almost be assured they will have asbestos there somewhere, so take great care when doing any work at all on them.
